Winter Mountain Guiding
In winter you’ll want expert tuition and guiding, the best possible chance of good conditions and, not least, to have a really good time. We can provide the knowledge, experience and advice you need to safely take on those tempting gullies, ridges, buttresses and snow peaks.
British Winter Mountaineering requires a higher level of commitment and offers a greater challenge to the experienced summer walker. Climbs and mountains clad in snow and ice may seem daunting and even intimidating, but we can give you the skills and confidence you need to tackle new objectives and challenges. We have over 30 years’ experience delivering winter skills courses and guiding in Scotland, the Lake District and other mountainous regions. If you already have some experience and want to try something more advanced, we can help you.
Winter climbing and mountaineering in the UK is very special to me, and I enjoy winter climbing, mountaineering, walking and skiing in the Lake District whenever we have the conditions. I also head up to Scotland by private arrangement, which brings back memories of my early days as an independent guide when I established my Winter Skills Course programme based in Glen Feshie. As well as the Cairngorms, other climbing areas I’ve visited frequently in winter are the North West Highlands, Lochaber, Ben Nevis, Glencoe, Creag Meagaidh and Lochnagar.
I organise tailored winter courses and itineraries for individuals, couples and small private groups. This means you get just what you want, the programme will be tailored to your experience and requirements and it is also economical if there are two of you or more. Many people see mountaineering in winter as a step towards the Alps or Greater Ranges, or it could be an end in itself. With me, you will receive the training you need to give you a relevant experience. Given the conditions and a flexible approach, I offer instruction and guiding in the Lake District or any location of your choice.
